Introducing a tutorial by EA Dice Concept Artist, Jakub Kowalczyk. Follow along to get insights into his mind-bending and highly iterative concept art pipeline using Photoshop, Blender, and VR. Jakub shares important insights across all the stages of the process and demonstrates skills that can be used in designing any type of architectural structure, world building, and environment creation. In this tutorial, Jakub will be creating a fictional waterfront structure in a fantasy setting.
Jakub explains the design process step-by-step, how to approach research, how to trigger creative thinking, and how to iterate on your ideas. By the end of this tutorial, you will have a good understanding how to create a 3D kitbash set in VR, how to translate your 2D sketch into a 3D building, and how to create a full 3D scene in Blender.
Jakub Kowalczyk is a Senior Concept Artist at Ripple Effect Studios (an EA studio), with around a decade in the games industry and prior time at EA DICE. He is an expert in atmosphere, architecture, and environments, and is especially known for pushing VR into the concept pipeline — his workflow blends Gravity Sketch, ZBrush, KeyShot, and Photoshop. He loves experimenting with 3D tools to solve common problems in fresh ways, and has collaborated with Gravity Sketch's development team to help improve the software. His concept work includes Battlefield 2042.
